Meath splits in two for anything web related, and a redesign that treats it as one county tends to serve neither half. The commuter belt along the M3, Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Ratoath and Dunshaughlin, behaves like outer Dublin: more competitors, more people searching on phones during a commute, and higher expectations of how quickly a page loads.

The rest of the county behaves nothing like that. Navan, Trim, Kells and Athboy are their own markets with their own competition, and ranking well in one of them does very little for you in the next. A single page trying to cover all of Meath usually ends up specific to none of it, which is a structural problem no visual redesign fixes.

There is also a tourism layer that no other county in the east has in the same way. The Boyne Valley, Newgrange and Trim Castle bring seasonal, out-of-county traffic to a particular set of businesses, and those sites have to answer questions about opening times, booking and directions that a local trade site never has to think about.

Why Does It Take Six Seconds to Load on a Phone?

Along the M3 corridor a large share of your visitors are on a phone, often on a moving train, often with patchy signal. A site built and approved on a desktop in an office can be unusable in those conditions and nobody involved ever finds out. Ashbourne and Dunboyne feel this more sharply than Kells or Athboy do.

Kells
Its own market with its own competition, far enough from Navan that ranking in one does little for the other. Usually worth its own page rather than a mention.
Dunboyne and Ratoath
Commuter towns where the search behaviour is closer to Dublin 15 than to the rest of Meath. Worth treating as a pair rather than separately.
Athboy and Oldcastle
Smaller western markets, quieter and much less contested. A modest, well-built page can hold a good position here without much of a fight.

Will a Website Redesign Lose the Rankings I Already Have?

It can, and it is the most common way a redesign goes wrong. Rankings disappear when URLs change without redirects, when existing pages are thinned out to suit a cleaner design, or when the new site turns out slower than the old one. All three are avoidable. Every existing URL gets mapped and redirected, the pages already earning impressions get kept rather than rewritten from scratch, and the new build is measured against the old before anything is switched.
