SEO in Ireland, Getting Found by Local Customers
Being on page four is much the same as not being there. SEO is the work of moving you closer to where people are actually looking, and for most Irish businesses that means the local searches happening a few miles from the door. Tell me where you stand now and I will give you a straight read on what looks worth doing.
What SEO actually is
What SEO Does for an Irish Business, in Plain English
SEO is the work of making it more likely that your business is the one shown when somebody nearby searches for what you do. Not advertising, which stops the moment you stop paying for it. The work is a mix of the words on your pages, how fast and how well built the site is, what Google knows about your business from your listing and your reviews, and who else on the internet points at you.
For a lot of Irish businesses the picture is smaller than it sounds. You are rarely up against the whole country. You are up against the handful of other firms serving the same few towns, and a good number of those have a slow site with one page mentioning six counties.
- An honest read on what looks winnable before you commit
- Search Console set up so you can see it for yourself
- Everything stays yours, including the pages and the profile

What Actually Gets You Ranked on Google
Four things decide it, roughly in this order of how much they tend to matter for a local Irish business. The local SEO guide covers the mechanics step by step.
-
Does Your Page Answer What Was Typed?
A page about "plumber in Navan" has more to work with for that search than a page about "plumbing services", because it matches what was asked.
-
Is Your Own Site Getting in the Way?
Speed on a phone, clean structure, and pages that are not competing with each other. The part most sites fail quietly, and the part most within your control.
-
Does Google Know Where You Are?
Your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and whether your details match everywhere they appear. For "near me" searches this often outweighs the website itself.
-
Does It Matter How Old My Site Is?
How long the domain has been around and who links to it. The slowest to build, and the reason a brand-new site cannot shortcut its way up.
Map pack Map pack
Local SEO and the Google Map Pack
Most people searching for a local business never scroll past the three results on the map. Getting into that block is a different job to ranking a normal page, and for a lot of small businesses it is where the searching actually ends.
- Google Business Profile set up properly, categories and service areas included
- Consistent name, address and phone details everywhere they appear
- A simple way to keep genuine reviews coming in, and answered
Local pages
County and Town Pages That Stand on Their Own
One page mentioning six counties tends to rank in none of them. A page written for a place, naming the towns and the trade the way people say it, has something to rank with. For most Irish businesses this is where the bulk of the work goes.
- A page per area you genuinely serve, not a list of place names
- Written around the words people type, not the words the trade uses
- Linked so the pages support each other rather than compete
Local pages The honest version
Nobody Can Promise You Number One.
Google does not sell positions and does not publish the recipe. What you should expect is a straight read on what looks realistic in your market, and the access to check it yourself.

Technical Technical
Technical SEO and Site Speed
Speed and structure are the parts nobody sees and everybody feels. A site that takes six seconds on a phone loses people before it is ever judged on its content, and Google reads that impatience the same way.
- Page speed on a phone, which is where most of the searching happens
- Clean structure, so Google can tell what each page is for
- One page per subject, so your own pages stop competing
Trust
Reviews and the Trust Signals Beside Your Listing
Ranking is only half of it. Two businesses side by side, one with fourteen recent reviews and one with none, are not read the same way. What sits beside your name often decides who gets rung once the searching is over.
- A simple habit for asking, so reviews arrive without nagging
- Registration numbers and insurance shown where they matter
- A phone number that can be tapped on every screen
Trust SEO Across Ireland, County by County
Most of this work happens outside Dublin, where searches tend to be contested by a handful of local firms rather than by national agencies.
Dublin is the exception. It is the most competitive market in the country, and a term like "web design Dublin" is a long haul rather than a quick one. The suburbs are a different story, and usually the sensible first target. There is more on the Dublin page.
If the site itself is what is holding you back, that is a web design job and I will say so. If you are moving to a new site, the rankings you already have are the thing most at risk, covered on website migration.

SEO in Ireland, Your Questions Answered
Ask me directly
Not on the list? Send it over. I'll give you a straight answer, no sales pitch.
Send a questionHow Long Does SEO Take to Show Anything?
Longer than anyone wants, and it varies enough that a firm number would be a guess. Local and long-tail searches tend to move before competitive head terms, and a newer domain takes longer again because Google has less history to go on. Anyone quoting a fixed timeline to page one is either targeting a phrase nobody searches or is not being straight with you.
Do I Need SEO or Do I Need a New Website?
Often the site itself is the thing in the way, and optimising a slow, badly structured site is effort spent working around a problem rather than fixing it. I will tell you honestly which one applies. If the site is sound and simply invisible, that is an SEO job. If it takes six seconds to load and has one page covering five counties, SEO alone will not sort that.
Can You Guarantee I Will Rank Number One?
No, and neither can anyone else. Google does not sell positions and does not publish the recipe. What I will do is tell you what looks realistic in your particular market before you commit to anything, show you where you currently sit and why, and be specific about which terms look winnable and which are not worth chasing.
What Is Local SEO, and Is It Different to Regular SEO?
Local SEO is the work that gets you found by people searching near you, which for most Irish businesses is nearly all of the opportunity. It leans on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and pages written for the places you actually serve. The mechanics are covered step by step in the local SEO guide if you want the detail rather than the summary.
Do You Work With Businesses Outside Dublin?
Most of the work is outside Dublin. Louth, Meath, Kildare, Wexford, Waterford and Sligo come up constantly. Smaller markets tend to be contested by a handful of local firms rather than by national agencies, which changes what is realistic. Everything runs remotely, so where you are makes no difference to how the work happens.
Will I Be Able to See What Is Actually Changing?
Yes, and you should insist on that with anyone you work with. Search Console shows what you rank for, what people searched to find you, and how it moves over time. I will set it up if it is not already, and walk you through reading it, so you are not taking my word for what is happening.
What Happens to the Work If We Stop Working Together?
It stays yours. The pages, the content, the Google Business Profile, the site itself. Nothing sits in an account you cannot access and nothing switches off. Worth checking that is true of anyone you hire, because it is not always.
What Do You Need From Me to Look at Where I Stand?
Your website address, the areas you cover, and the jobs you most want more of. That is enough for me to see where you currently sit and come back with an honest read on what looks achievable. It takes me an hour or so.
